60% Grenache, 30% Syrah, 10% Mourvedre

Cuvée Foudre is our version of a full-bodied Rhone blend worthy of Chateauneuf Du Pape. Thanks to a naturally low crop set, the 2021 was a particularly strong vintage for Grenache. The blend is 60% Grenache from our Alban clone vines, 30% Syrah from clones 174 and 877, and 10% Mourvedre, all planted in 1998. It was aged in a 620-gallon foudre, which is neutral. I love this vintage because it is quintessential Unti - meaning it straddles the line between robust Rhone and etherial Burgundy. Who knew a Grenache blend could be so sophisticated? The '21 CF will improve over the next 3-4 years and last another 5.

100% Syrah

As always, this 2021 Syrah comes from our "Creekside" block located on the winery property.  This site has well drained soils (loam with gravel and sand) that promotes well-balanced vine growth. In 2021, a low crop set resulted in one of our most concentrated Syrahs ever from this site. It features dark color, intense black and blueberry fruit, along with the classic spice and savory elements of Northern Rhone syrah. Like most of our '21 reds, this Syrah has the structure to age at least 8 to 10 years, but should begin to show well in a couple years. A real vin de garde!

100% Montepulciano

We have been making full-bodied Montepulcinao, worthy of the best artisan wineries in Abruzzo and Le Marche, since 2006. The 2021 vintage is our most concentrated and complex Montepulciano to date, thanks to a low crop set, followed by and ideal growing season. It is 100% montepulciano from our original creekside vines, which consistently render a very structured wine with classic plum, cassis and chocolate aromas and flavors. Similar to a great Bordeaux, this MP has the tannin to age at least 10-plus years. If you insist on drinking now, I recommend decanting.

Unfortunately, supply is very limited at 130 cases.

59% Syrah, 41% Mourvedre

Finally, an Unti wine where mourvedre plays a prominent role! The 2021 Petit Frere features our clone 383 Syrah with our creekside mourvedre. 383 is our most Northern Rhone-like syrah, featuring floral , spicy aromas. The mourvedre is quite noticeable, with it's cherry, savory, meaty aromas and flavors. The wine is already showing well, making it perfect for drinking early and often. The mourvedre will allow this wine to age nicely over the next 2 to 4 years.

43% Vermentino, 30% Fiano, 16% Biancolella and 11% Falanghina from our vines planted in 2018. These Italian varietals retain great acidity at peak flavor ripeness. This unconventional Italian white blend is aromatic, fruity, crisp and dry. The wine is fermented and aged in concrete and stainless steel tanks without malo-lactic fermentation to preserve acidity. It is an excellent glimpse into the future of California white wine!

Aglianico is easily the most distinguished Italian red very few folks know about. 2019 is our fourth vintage from vines planted in 2013. It has consistently produced dark color, complex fruit and spice while delivering a firm and full-bodied wine - one that can easily age up to 10 years, like the great Taurasi DOCG wines of Campania. This '19 Aglianico shows how the grape is THE ideal choice to replace Cabernet in Sonoma and Napa.
