2021 Sangiovese West Terrace

If we had a Hall of Fame for our vineyard blocks, the Sangiovese planted on our west terrace would be a unanimous selection - something that should have been bestowed upon my baseball hero, Rickey Henderson.

The Sangiovese vines located on the West Terrace is our most consistent vineyard block, likely due to 30-plus year-old vines, a hillside site, and its eastern exposure. The 2021 growing season enhanced these features, which created a remarkable wine. All of these variables are essential to making the worlds best Sangiovese in Tuscany, and here in Dry Creek Valley. This Sangiovese was aged in 40% new French Oak barrels, but you wouldn't know it from its sensory expression. A truly remarkable vintage.

The long, mild, near perfect growing season combined with the low yields made for a pure expression of this block's darker cherry fruits, more violet, purple, flowers, seamless acidity and opulent lengthy tannins that make for deep, layered and complex expression of Sangiovese more akin to Brunello di Montalcino."
