2021 Segromigno

70% Sangiovese, 30% Montepulciano Estate grown
Segromigno is our unconventional version of a Super-Tuscan that has the fruit of Chianti Classico. The Sangiovese is grosso-clone (used in the famed Brunello di Montalcino) from 20-plus year old vines. Instead of using Babernet or Merlot, we blend Montepulciano to give the wine depth, richness and structure. While Montepulciano is not grown in Tuscany, we think it is much more compatible than a Bordeaux grape because it has better acidity, and well, its Italian. the low crop set in 2021 really gave our Sangiovese more fruit and structure. Like a great Chianti, Segromigno is quite versatile with many foods, which might explain for it being our most popular red wine.
