2015 Verdicchio

2015 Verdicchio

Verdicchio is one of Italy’s greatest white wines. Not-so- coincidently, it is also George’s favorite. Verdicchio is THE white wine of Le Marche, with the best renditions from Castelli di Jesi and Matelica (by far our favorite town name for a wine).

We have an experimental block of Verdicchio (672 vines) right next to the winery, presumably so George can keep an eye on them. In 2015, we harvested a little over a 1.6 tons of grapes from this block. We then pressed the juice off the skins into a concrete egg for fermentation and aging. We blended Picpoul for added fruit and acidity.

Verdicchio can be made in a variety of styles. From light and fruity, to rich and full-bodied—and we love them all. Our Verdicchio is still a work in progress and offers a glimpse into why we are so excited about this Adriatic white. Floral, crisp and fruity with a classic sweet almond aroma. It is definitely a white wine that is light on its feet. -M U
